Low-cost counselling and psychotherapy organisations in Kent

The NHS is wonderful for providing people with services such as mindfulness, brief ‘talking therapies’, and time-limited Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). But these aren’t suitable for everyone, and may mostly be aimed at making people well enough to rejoin the workplace. In addition to this, waiting lists may be quite lengthy, or there may be a limit for how many times you can access a service. For these reasons, lots of people may be interested in seeing a private counsellor or psychotherapist, but may not be able to afford £40+/session to see someone privately.

That’s where low-cost counselling and psychotherapy organisations come in. Normally run by volunteers, some therapists found in these organisations may be trainees, qualified but working towards accreditation, or may simply want to offer their services free of charge or for little money. Some organisations may have a lengthy waiting list so it is always worth asking them about this. These organisations may request a donation of anywhere between £5-£35/session. You can self-refer to these services, you do not need a GP to refer you.

This list is not exhaustive although it aims to be but information changes all the time. This list also does not include charities, although they are also worth contacting (e.g. Mind, Relate, Rising Sun).
